Terms of Use
Last updated 13 September 2026. These terms are an agreement between you and the developer of Bible Bison.
Bible Bison is not medical or psychological treatment. It is a scripture and devotional app. It does not diagnose, treat or cure anything, it is not therapy, and it is not a substitute for a doctor, a licensed counsellor or a pastor. If you are in crisis, contact a qualified professional or your local emergency number. In the United States you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
1. Accepting these terms
By downloading or using Bible Bison you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app. You must be old enough for the app's App Store age rating in the country where you live.
2. Your licence to use the app
We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use Bible Bison on Apple devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not copy, sell, rent, sublicense, reverse engineer or attempt to derive the source code of the app, except to the extent that restriction is prohibited by law.
3. Apple's role
These terms are between you and us, not between you and Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. Specifically:
- Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the app.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim relating to the app, including product liability claims, any claim that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection or similar legislation.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for investigating and defending any third-party claim that the app infringes that third party's intellectual property rights.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and upon your acceptance Apple has the right to enforce them against you.
4. Your account
An account keeps your journal, your records and your friendships attached to you rather than to one handset, so that they survive a lost or replaced phone. You are responsible for keeping access to the Apple ID or phone number you sign in with. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been used without your permission.
You can delete your account at any time from inside the app, under You → your profile → Delete account.
5. What you write
Your journal entries, letters and records are yours. You keep all rights in them. You grant us only the limited permission needed to operate the app for you: to store your content, to process it so that a reply can be written back to you, and to show it back to you. We do not publish it, sell it, or show it to other users. See the Privacy Policy for exactly who processes it.
6. Text the app writes to you
Letters, journal replies, chat answers and notifications are generated by software using a large language model. They are written in a pastoral register and, for some voices, shaped by the public preaching of a named preacher, but they are not written by that person and do not represent them. A preacher's name appears attached to text only where that text is a verbatim quotation of something they actually said or wrote, and the app labels it as such.
Generated text can be mistaken, and it is not authoritative teaching. Weigh it against Scripture and against people who know you.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the app for anything unlawful, or to harass, threaten or abuse anyone.
- Use the friends feature to pressure, shame or surveil another person.
- Attempt to access another user's account or data.
- Interfere with, overload or probe our servers, or attempt to circumvent rate limits or security controls.
- Scrape, republish or redistribute the Bible text, the quotation corpus or generated content as a dataset or a competing product.
- Submit content that is illegal, or that infringes someone else's rights.
We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these rules.
8. Intellectual property
The app, its design, its written content and its software are owned by us and protected by copyright. The following third-party material is used under the terms below.
Scripture quotations
Scripture quotations are from the ESV® Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version®), copyright © 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers. Used by permission. All rights reserved. The ESV text may not be quoted in any publication made available to the public by a Creative Commons license. The ESV may not be translated into any other language.
Historical writings
Quotations from Charles Spurgeon, John Owen, J. C. Ryle, Robert Murray M'Cheyne, Samuel Rutherford and John Bunyan are taken from works in the public domain and are cited to their source.
Quotations from living and recent preachers
Short quotations from other preachers are reproduced verbatim, attributed, and used for the purpose of comment and illustration. No endorsement of Bible Bison by any of them, or by any organisation they are associated with, is claimed or implied. If you hold rights in quoted material and would like it removed, email [email protected] and we will remove it.
9. Notifications
The app sends notifications only if you allow them, and you can turn them off at any time in iOS Settings or in the app. They are devotional and pastoral, not advertising.
10. Price and changes to the app
Bible Bison is currently free to use. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the app. If we ever introduce a paid feature, we will say so clearly before you are charged, and payment will be handled by Apple under its terms.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error free, or that any content it generates will be accurate or suitable for you. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of this may not apply to you.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising out of your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty five US dollars. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
13. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your unlawful use of the app or your breach of these terms.
14. Termination
You may stop using the app and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you break these terms or if we are required to by law. Sections 8 and 11 to 16 survive termination.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws rules, and the courts located in Illinois will have jurisdiction, except where the mandatory consumer protection law of your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings locally.
16. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms materially we will update the date above and give notice in the app before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the new terms.
